CLUB STATEMENT
Due to the ongoing challenges associated to the implementation of a SSSI in North Norfolk, and the subsequent need to make mitigation payments to the relevant Local Authority, the Club has had to take the difficult decision of advising Club Units to cancel their events. Unfortunately, this legislation and the action required to mitigate it, is outside of the Club’s control but as always, we will continue to work on a solution with the relevant parties for both members and Club Units. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
Letter from Camping and Caravanning Club:
As Secretary to the Exempted Camping Committee, I have been asked to write to you regarding a situation that is currently affecting several camping events within the Norfolk area. As you may already be aware via Green Paper 3.22, for several years Club camping events have been affected by Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and their associated catchment areas/buffer zones within the UK. It has unfortunately been brought to the Club’s attention by North Norfolk District Council and Kings Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council that several events are located within a SSSI catchment area, and due to this, further consultation has been required between Natural England and the local authority to obtain permission for the events to proceed. Despite our best efforts the situation remains unresolved, and the Club has had to make the difficult decision to cancel the following Temporary Holiday Sites and Meets to give members as much notice as possible.
HS3523/2023 BCC – Bedfordshire Section 05/02/2023 4120 Fakenham Racecourse
HS2173/2023 BCC – East & West Yorks Section 21/05/2023 246 Whittletons Farm
HS2184/2023 BCC – East & West Yorks Section 16/07/2023 246 Whittletons Farm
M3588/2023 BCC – Norfolk Section 06/04/2023 951 Wells County Primary School
In addition to the above list, there may be a requirement to cancel the following two events. However, the individual Club Unit is currently investigating whether the venues has a ‘licence’ to operate camping events. Unless evidence of a licence can be provided, the following will be cancelled on Thursday 30th March.
• HS1971/2023 – BCC – Norfolk Section on 15/07/2023 at Glebe House School
I can confirm that the above Club Units have all been contacted to advise them of the situation, and all have received an email containing an official Club statement that they will be able to use when communicating to members and site owners. Please be assured that the Club will continue to work on a solution with the relevant parties for both members and Club Units.
Yours sincerely, Darren Whittington
Secretary to the Exempted Camping Committee
